Bank Employee Day: the people who stand behind our financially peaceful and stable everyday life

November 22 is a special day in Armenia. If you have a relative, close friend, or colleague who works in a bank, then you might be aware that it is the Bank Employee Day. Many do not know the reason why this particular day was chosen or the story behind it.

According to our little research, it turns out that on September 22, 1993, a groundbreaking event took place in the financial history of our country - the birth of the Armenian dram, and the further away we are from that event, the clearer we recognize its significance.

On September 22, 1993, the independent Republic of Armenia introduced its national currency. It was not just a new banknote, but also a witness to our identity - the new breath of the independent state. As contemporaries note, talking about sovereign statehood without a national currency did not make any sense [Click to watch more].

When the dram became a "little ambassador” of our history

The first series of banknotes of the Republic of Armenia was put into circulation in denominations of 10, 25, 50, 100, 200, and 500 drams. Interestingly, they continued to circulate alongside the Soviet ruble until 1994, providing a smooth transition to the new reality.

If you remember these banknotes, you will undoubtedly agree that they looked like little postcards that told stories about Armenia, featuring its historical monuments, culture, architecture…

Today, these banknotes are still remembered as the first financial symbols of independent Armenia.

It is very interesting and symbolic that the Bank Employee Day is associated both with the birth of the national currency and with the people who uphold its value and our financial stability each and every day.

Why is this day important?

The banking system is the backbone of any national economy and the driving force that turns money into new opportunities.

However, without bank employees, transactions would amount to no more than a paper exercise. It is bank employees who, often invisibly, stand behind our financial security and positive experiences, providing quick and easy access to the system.

To be quite honest, the routine work done by bank employees is mostly invisible. What we see out there is the result – trust and security - but their work rhythm, their calls, their efforts to deliver prompt decisions in complex situations and, at the same time, their genuine desire to help people remain unseen.

At AraratBank, we believe that each employee, with their human and professional qualities, is an integral part of our reliable, professional, and warm team.

This day is yet another opportunity to appreciate the values of professionalism, commitment, and customer care shared by our colleagues.
